1. […] Detroit is getting a 7′ tall statue of Robocop. Through online funding efforts (via Kickstarter), over $50,000 has been raised for the erection of a metal sculpture depicting Detroit’s own futuristic crime fighter. The initiative came from a random tweet out of Philly, stating the city had a statue of Rocky, and that Robocop kicks Rocky’s butt. This is an example of how small efforts gone viral can accomplish great things. 2. I heard about this a few weeks ago. Although I think having a giant RoboCop statue watching over the streets of Detroit would be awesome, I didn’t think that too many people would take interest and donate.
You do bring up some great points though, Justin. These small, gradual events and initiatives can potentially start something bigger. Drawing attention. Getting people thinking, talking. Getting creative with spaces.
